What is Microchipping?

Microchipping increases the chances of reunite a lost pet with its owner.  The microchip has the owners information stored and is linked to a unique ID number.  Suppose a pet is found and brought to an animal shelter or veterinarian office. In that case, the pet is scanned for a chip and the identifying chip number is linked to the owners contact information. Always keep your contact info (phone number, email, address) up to date.

How the Microchipping Process work in pets?

The microchip is inserted under the skin between the shoulder blades. The needle is slightly larger than a typical vaccine, but this process does not require anesthesia or sedation.  The microchip itself is the size of a grain of rice. It is only activated when scanned by a microchip scanner to read the unique ID number.

How is my Pet Reunited with Me?

The vet or animal shelter will scan your pet for the chip number. They will enter the number into a microchip lookup database. This will give them the microchip company and then the owner's contact information.

It is vitally important to keep your information up to date with your microchip company.  Studies have shown a dramatic increase in reuniting lost pets, (especially cats) with their owners if they are microchipped.
